  1. Al was always there for his wife Jean. He always made sure she was able to cook for him and in his later years, rub his back and hold his hand. 🙂
When Jean would go hiking he would always make sure where she was going was safe and that she was with someone he approved of that would take care of her. They were dedicated to each other and were supportive of each other.

Al died a difficult but peaceful death. He knew Jean was there by his side and enjoyed every moment he had with her.

Al left Jean the saying that is giving her comfort then, today, and tomorrow——“A drop on your cheek is a kiss from someone in heaven”.

Al—we’re planning a party for you so you better be there to see how much we love and miss you!!!

  2. Neighborhood friends, we played bat mitten, pinochle, passed the football, we went pheasant hunting and we went fishing until mosquitoes got to bad. We attended different colleges together and would meet at the east end A and W in Marion when home on weekends. Then we met with two other friends Dale Penne (also a Regis grad) and Jim Starks.
We sat at a table drank coffee 5 cents a cup with free refills. There’s probably more good memories for another time.

  3. Jean, Since Al and I are first cousins, most of my memories are at our Grandma and Grandpa Carroll’s house in New Haven. They would come up from Cedar Rapids most every weekend. Al was about 10 years older than me and he was so very tall! I remember them telling he had to carry his birth certificate with him to the movies to prove he got in for the children’s price. I have some photos to share with you sometime too from New Haven. Again so sorry for your loss and hope I can attend any memorial service you may have.

  4. Al was one of the dearest friends I’ve had. We met at The Seabreeze in 1979 I believe. I was really young, said and did stupid things, but Al and Jean always accepted me as a friend. One of my fondest memories was when we went to the Rose Bowl to watch ASU come from behind against Michigan for the victory. Will miss you for the time being big guy, but we’ll see each other again.
