BarBara Andrews

Mrs. BarBara Deagan Andrews of Buckeye, AZ died 11/18/2021 in Surprise, AZ of a stroke. She was born 12/24/1939 to Ernest Deagan Sr. and Bernadine Whitlock Deagan in Terre Haute, IN.

BarBara had a B.A. in English & Drama from Indiana State. She was a children’s bookseller by trade. She was the Book Dept Director at the U. of Missouri Bookstore, Children’s Book Dept Manager at the University Bookstore in Seattle, WA, and the owner of Whippersnappers Children’s Bookstore in Laramie, WY. BarB was a master genealogist, extensively researching her own family and the families of others. She was a member of the New England Genealogical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution of Buckeye, AZ, member and former president of the Custer Association of America, and a member of a Women’s History Book Club.

BarB was a strong, resilient, loud, intelligent, passionate, determined, outspoken, liberal, beautiful woman, full of life. She made many impacts – one of them being helping other women realize that it was OK to be all of those things as a woman. She loved her husband and her children fiercely. She often said that she didn’t know what she had done, that all of her children thought that life was supposed to be fair, but she was proud that they all continually work to help make life be more fair for all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard L. Andrews, her daughter Carmen Andrews (Sánchez), her daughter Lisa Andrews Garay, her husband Sidney, her son Cheyney Andrews, his spouse Alison, and her son Deagan Andrews, and his spouse Lana. She was a grandmother of ten and a great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kristine Lynée Andrews, her parents Ernest Sr. and Bernadine Deagan, and her brother, Ernest Deagan Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Arthritis Foundation, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Surprise, AZ, or the charity of your choice. Burial will be at Meharry Cemetery in New Richmond, IN.
