Roger Dean Sweborg

Roger Dean Sweborg, 79 of Sun City West, Arizona is away from his body and is at home with the Lord. Born in Galesburg, Illinois at Cottage Hospital Jan 23rd, 1944, son of Emery Virgil and Lozetta Pearl Sweborg. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, two sons, Douglas (wife Sarah) and Christopher. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Kate, Jessie, and Kaya. Roger attended Silas Willard Grade School, Hitchcock Junior High & Churchill Junior High, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1962 He started working at the A&P Food store in 1960 part-time. After high school he worked full time as Assistant Manager leaving in 1968. He then, worked for Galesburg Soft water, building soft water tanks and servicing customers from 1968 to 1971 In 1971 he began working for Outboard Marine Corp until 1984, when OMC closed. He worked in the Plating and Mower line Departments at OMC. He learned the Locksmith trade and started his own locksmith business, A&R Locksmith after OMC’s closing. He was a member of the Galesburg Emergency Police He started working for the Knox County Sheriff’s Department in 1984, retiring in 2002 when he moved to Washington state. While in Washington, he worked in the electronics department at Walmart from 2002 to 2006. Prior to his full retirement, he worked for Mercy Transportation where he transported patients for doctor appointments and treatments. He was a member of Bethel Baptist church in Galesburg before moving to Washington State. He served as a Deacon, worked in the Sunday School office, Ushered, sang in Choir, and helped with the Boys Brigade program. He is currently a member of Graham Emmanuel Baptist Church in Graham, Washington. Where he assisted with counting monetary giving and ushered. Roger loved to Bowl and was in three leagues with an average of 183 with a high series of 666. This was one of the highest series in Galesburg called a triplicate, all three games of 222 for a total of 666 actual pins. It was reported in the Galesburg Register-mail as one of the highest triplicate series they could remember. Roger loved racing, and had a racing team for ten years. Building street stock cars and racing at the Knox County Fairground. Roger enjoyed watching court shows, game shows (Price is Right), sports, and Nascar races. He was able to attend two Nascar races, one in Phoenix and one in Las Vegas. Roger was on top of all current local and national news, watched FOX news until they went woke, then watched only Newsmax. Roger was currently attending New Hope Fellowship of Sun City West. Our thanks to Agave Hospice and Palliative Care for the compassionate care received and Nana Hope Hospice for the excellent care.
