William Browne McCullough

Born April 25, 1940, in Providence, RI, William Browne McCullough died in Surprise, Arizona on February 26, 2025. In the weeks before his passing from Parkinson’s Disease, Bill was cared for by his loving wife Linda Binns McCullough and children Leslie McCullough Toll (Redmond, OR), Michael Shull (Lynnwood, WA), Laurie McCullough Perdue (Portland, OR), and Stephen Shull (Wilmington, North Carolina). Bill is remembered with affection and gratitude by his children’s spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bill’s parents, James McCullough and Eveline Browne, immigrated from Belfast, Ireland and Bill spent the majority of his childhood in Encinitas, CA. He was predeceased by brother John McCullough, and sister Virginia McCullough Copple. Kind. Quiet. Athletic. Bill enjoyed his high school and young adult life excelling in varsity baseball, working as a lineman, and supporting his family. Bill earned his journeyman status in San Diego County and worked in the plumbing industry through the 1990s. Regardless of the day’s labor, training and management roles, Bill could be found late into the afternoon perfecting his gardens and landscaping. He enjoyed movies and books. An avid racing fan, Bill attended many Indy Car and Nascar races over the years. He rebuilt a muscle car, drove a dune buggy, and deeply enjoyed many great American road trips. He was creative and thrived on completing projects and later in life built model cars. Semi-retiring from Southern California, Bill and Linda enjoyed living in the Mukilteo and Lynnwood areas of Washington state near family before spending 18 golden years near Surprise, AZ where golf, gardening, travels, good friendships and close family joined them. Bill won the Inaugural Silvertip Tournament at Copper Canyon Golf Club and hit a hole-in-one on another occasion. Prior to the times spent closer to home in these last years, Bill spent some of his fondest experiences traveling with his wife and sister-in-law, Barbara Binns Pattinson and brother-in-law Trevor Pattinson whom he joins on the other side. Ireland, Switzerland and an English canal excursion were top on his list of favorite trips along with visiting family as often as possible. In March 2025, Bill was remembered by his Festival community at the home of friends John and Maggie Stiles. In June, his wife Linda was joined by their children and families to lay his ashes in the great Pacific Ocean at their beloved childhood beach, Cardiff Reef, CA.
