July 25, 1942 to March 27, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Sigrid Inez (Scanland) Van Eck, a devoted mother and cherished community member. Sigrid passed away on March 27th, 2024, in her home in Surprise, AZ.

Born in Screven, Georgia, in 1942, Sigrid grew up as a woman of remarkable strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She was the loving daughter of Nadine Ines (Leggett) Scanland and Robert G. Scanland. From an early age, she displayed a remarkable work ethic, working for 27 years for the same company that changed ownership during her tenure. Her kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her.

After graduating from a high school in Miami, where she excelled academically and formed lifelong friendships, Sigrid met the love of her life, James Van Eck. Their love story blossomed, and they shared many beautiful years together until James’s recent passing in December 2023. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love and companionship.

Throughout her life, Sigrid was a devoted mother to her six children, Loralee, Michael, Christopher, Heather, Joshua, and Joel. She poured her heart and soul into raising them with love, patience, and wisdom, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. Her children were her greatest pride and joy; her legacy lives on through them.

Sigrid will be fondly remembered for her sweet disposition, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith. She profoundly impacted all who knew her and left behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished forever.

Sigrid is survived by her Daughter Loralee Mitchell, (the late)Son-in-law Russel Mitchell, Grandson Matthew Mitchell, Granddaughter Megen Mitchell (Kai Allen), Son Michael Van Eck, Daughter-in-law Patricia Van Eck, Granddaughter Lindsey (Jordan) Aldridge, Granddaughter Mackenzie (Eli) Pillsbury, Great Granddaughter Indiana Aldridge, Son James Christopher Van Eck, Daughter-in-law Elizabeth Van Eck, Grandson Ryan Van Eck, Grandson Zachary Van Eck, Daughter Heather Marie Vargas, Granddaughter Sophia Vargas, Son Joshua Van Eck, Daughter-in-law Renea Martucci Van Eck, Grandson Conner Van Eck, Granddaughter Leighton Van Eck, Son Joel Van Eck, Grandson James Van Eck, Granddaughter Rosalee Van Eck.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Sigrid will forever remain in our hearts, where her memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
