Virginia A. Artale

Virginia A. Artale, age 81, of Litchfield Park, AZ, passed away on June 27, 2019 in Surprise, AZ of Duodenal Cancer.  Virginia was born April 14, 1938 in Brooklyn NY to Joseph and Laura D’Angelo Artale.  She moved to Rockland County, NY in the 60’s and relocated to Phoenix, AZ in the 80’s.

Virginia loved and cared for others deeply. She was a caretaker for her aging parents, her Aunt Bridget Coppola, and her sister Maria Artale. Virginia had a warmth about her which allowed her many lasting friendships. She laughed easily and had a wonderful sense of humor. She worked as a doctor’s assistant, a secretary, was a business owner, a bookkeeper, and a teacher’s assistant for ESL students.

She volunteered for over six years at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Goodyear, AZ. She was an excellent baker and everyone loved her Manicotti.

Virginia is survived by her sisters, Maria Artale, Loretta Barbieri and Joanna Flaherty. While Virginia never married or had children of her own, she was a loving Aunt to her 5 nieces and 5 nephews and many great nieces and nephews – some of who considered her a parent figure and all of which will miss her terribly. She was a Godmother to 6 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Laura Artale, her Aunt Bridget and Uncle George Coppola and her great nephew, Justin Kelly.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a future date. She loved Arizona and requested her ashes be scattered at the Grand Canyon.

In lieu of flowers, etc. the family wishes donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute-www.cancerresearch.org because cancer sucks.

  1. I will miss my Aunt Virginia every day. She left this earth too quickly. Sending love and peace to all who had the fortune to know her.
