Virginia Eleanor Dickens

Virginia Eleanor Dickens of Sun City, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018. She was born September 24, 1925, to Charles and Marguerite Powell in Toutle Lake, WA. Virginia graduated from Stanwood High School in 1943 and worked as a Rosie the Riveter during WWII. She attended Modern Beauty College in Tacoma, WA and finished with a license in cosmetology in 1946. She married Harold Dickens on December 31, 1948 and they made their home in Seattle, WA. They went on to have six children, but later divorced.

Virginia was employed by the State of Washington at the Rainier State School for Developmentally Disabled Adults for 27 years. She moved to Arizona 18 years ago after she retired and made Sun City her home. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Sun City and for many years attended Skyway Church with her family.

She loved the Lord and spent time praying for her loved ones daily. She found joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, keeping in touch through cards and letters, always pleased to see pictures in the mail.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Helen Schuman; daughters, Lynda Nanod, Deborah McDaniel, Carolyn McDonald, and Paula Brown; and son, Roger Dickens. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Arrangements were entrusted to Simply Cremation and Funeral Arrangements in Surprise, AZ.
