Julieta Lorenzo Sico

Julieta Lorenzo Sico, age 90, of Gardena, California, died on April 4, 2024 in Surprise, Arizona. Julieta was born in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines to Eusebio Lorenzo and Rosa Romulo. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Barrameda; sons Lui Sico and Cesar Sico, 14 grandchildren Anthony, Albert, Andrei, Paulo, Criselle, Julie Anne, Clarisse, Czarina, Cristene, Carlo, Jolo, Pauline, Dianne, and Eunice; and her great-grandchildren Nowi and Primo.

Julieta met her husband at a christening of a mutual friend’s child. Julieta was the Godmother and Cipriano was to be the child’s Godfather. Cipriano would escort Julieta home from work each day and the pair married several months after their meeting in a double wedding they shared with Julieta’s brother and his wife. After their wedding, the two were never apart. Their marriage was full of love, laughter, and happiness. Their union welcomed five beautiful children in to the world. In 1988, their family would move from the Philippines to the United States under a Special Immigrant Status; a privilege granted to them thanks to their work on the US Airbase (Clark Air Base) in the Philippines.

Family was very important to Julieta. She was known in her family for her kindness and generosity. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or any reason for a celebration (even for her extended family). Julieta was a strict parent; always expecting the best from her children because she knew they were capable of it. Her kids always had a curfew and she stressed the importance of school to them, but she also encouraged them to form friendships. She was the type of parent to always know your friends’ names and welcomed them happily to her home.

Julieta taught her children to “never be a guest.” It was important to her that both she and her family where always helpful to those around them. Never being a guest also meant it was important to talk to people and make others feel comfortable. She wanted her children to start the conversation if there was ever a silence. Julieta loved talking to others, telling stories, and jokes. She shared this trait with her family who are just as talkative and lively as she was. Julieta loved talking to her family so much it was often difficult to get her off of the phone because there was always something more to share. She was a loving “Lola” to her grandkids and great-grandkids, and was very proud of them.

In her retirement Julieta enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She loved watching Jeopardy, listening and singing along to love songs, and most of all visiting the casino to play the slot machines. True to her generous spirit, Julieta always said she knew exactly how she would spend her winnings if she ever won the jackpot; sharing it with those she loved. Even when she didn’t win big she was often passing along her smaller winnings to her children and grandchildren.

A devout Catholic, Julieta loved nothing more than reading her bible, praying, and listening to Mass three times each day. She was a member of the Gardena Rosary Group in Gardena California. We take comfort in knowing that she is now home with Jesus.

A visitation for Julieta will be held on April 13, 2024 at 5:00 PM followed by a service starting at 7:00PM. Services will be held at 926 S. Litchfield Road Goodyear, Arizona 85338. Julieta will be laid to rest beside her husband Cipriano, son Jessie, and daughter Marivie at Holy Mary Memorial Park in Angeles City Philippines.
