Elmer Hird Ewan

Elmer Hird Ewan was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He left this world suddenly due to pancreatic cancer on April 13, 2021, at age 77, in his hometown of Surprise, Arizona. His final days were spent surrounded by his family.

He was born to Alex and Gladys Ewan on June 30, 1943.  After graduating from Kendall, Elmer and chased his dreams traveling around the USA working at different printing jobs.  Elmer married Ruth Flansburg in 1967.  Together, they had 3 children: Bonita, Rodney, and Lisa.  After Ruth’s death, he married Cecile “Margie” Hall and had two stepchildren: Richard, Jr., and Cindy.  Elmer had 16 grandchildren.

Elmer loved spending time with his friends and his family.  He passionately loved the Washington Redskins.

At Elmer’s request, there will be no services held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the deaf residents of Sun City Grand (SCG).  A memorial will be created for other families who may have experienced an unexpected loss in their family and/or to support Deaf senior citizens in SCG.  Donations may be made to David Herbold at 20486 N. Contributions can also be made to Kendall School Div 2 Memorial as a way to recognize and honor Elmer.   1. Dear cousin Elmer… you shall be missed. Celebrate your joyful reunion with your mom, dad, brother and also my Jerry. Your love for your children and grandchildren was noted in moving to Arizona to be closer to them. My condolences to the Ewan family.

  2. I was fortunately to know Elmer and was very sweet man and loved to tell storytelling. I missed his sense of humor and laughing. He will be a great missed. My condolences goes to the family, grandchildren and friends with much love.

  3. Cousin Elmer’s sudden death on April 13 Th came as a shock .
    I wish I had the opportunity to visit him and Margie at their new home before COVID-19 and also before my unfortunate accident which required surgery.
    My deepest condolences to Cousin Elmer’s wife and family.
    I will miss his teasing, his company and more!
